I am trying to figure out what I am going to do with CrocDock name tags. Are group's sticky? I have never bought group's. Do you buy lanyards? Please tell me what you do with name tags at VBS, Jake

You can use lanyards, or you can use clips that can be purchased at WalMart or office supply places. If you use sticky tags, they're only good for one day. The cost of more permanent tags that would last all week are often cheaper than 5 days of disposable tags. Lanyards or clips are usable year after year, so the one-time investment has been worth it for us.

One more thing to consider: I have found it important to have names large enough on the tag to be read easily. It's tempting to put a lot of cute graphics on the tag, but it loses it's value, if the names can't be read.

Good luck in planning!

I would go with a lanyard as well because Group always likes to incorporate water into their games so you wouldn't want to have the name tags getting wet. Something like this would work great so that you could create a card to put in with the kids name on it. Then it won't get wet.

God Bless,

Josh

We use lanyards like this for leaders and clear badges with clip ons for the kids and they work great.

If you don't peel the name tag, just cut it out and slip it in the name badge, then you can reuse them year to year.

I print name tags using standard mailing labels (from the church office, so no added VBS expense). I also use them to group the kids. I put a picture at the side that is a symbol of the group they are in and then their name in large font. We have pre-registration, so I have most of the kids done for the week. I have extra blanks for new registrations on the first and second days and just write the name in with a marker and make printed ones for the rest of the week. I have a volunteer who hands them out as kids arrive. They can also be given to crew leaders. Very quick, easy and cheap.

I did lanyards one year and the kids were constantly taking them off and leaving them somewhere. Many just did not like having them around the neck. The were also a bit of a hazard during some of the games and tended to dip into paint and glue during crafts.

I do buy the sticky ones from OT and stick them on card stock or cons. paper. Adults get the plastic covers and kids just get yarn. The cardstock gives them support and can be reused each day. You can also laminate them if you chose. Each age group has their own color (I don't do multiage crews) so it helps quickly to tell which group a child is with if they get seperated.

Hello,

Our church held the Croc. Dock VBS last summer. After the first night more than 50% of the name tags came up "lost", torn, or the younger kids took them off not wanting to wear it. And the sticky tags where time consumming with experience from previous activities with the kids. Someone had to be solely responsible for writing the names on new tags each evening and getting the tags on the kids. With an average of 50 kids per evening, after a couple of days, most of the volunteers were able to learn most of the kids names. My recommendation is to go with the mose inexpensive.

I have gone to using the sticky ones with the kids getting a new one each night.  Last year I put them in the small group leaders bags along with a sharpie and they made a new one for the kids that showed up each night.  In other years I have put up a special table in the back of the sanctuary and let the kids put their names on the tag themselves.  Both worked well and we had no problem.  I like the sticky tags best because they do not seem to bother the kids necks or at game time be a problem.  I bought them online at OT.  They were cheap enough to not worry about and had the croc dock theme on them.

What I have done the past few years is use the clip art from the kit and create my own name tag. I have the template saved on my computer so now I just put the new clip art in and do a little editing and we have name tags. I then run them off on cardstock and use yarn to tie them together. The crew leader collect them at the end of each day and distribute them in the morning. The crew leaders just have to write the names on the first day. Works easy for us.

We too use the clipart and the card stock for name tags, but go to the extra expense of laminating them at our local office supply store.  We also have the group leaders take them up each evening and return them the next evening.  Blank ones stay at our registration table for new arrivals.  This also allows us to put allergies and other medical alerts on the back of the name tags to keep our group leaders informed.
