Some of the teachers in our nursery and preschool Sunday School departments are habitually late each Sunday. I've shared all MY tips with the department directors but tardiness continues.

Can you help me? What has worked for you?

By the way, it's not the teachers with little children!

Anybody?  I have parents standing in classrooms waiting for the teachers and the Pastor walks by wondering why the teachers aren't there yet.  What to do?

Ok so I will weigh in on this one.  My husband and I were the coordinators for a childrens ministry ages 0-13 for 10 years and we had this problem.  We started having a morning meeting were we meet to go over any information for the day and have prayer  and let the teachers give praise reports or ask for prayer for anything personal or for the ministry, that seemed to get most of the teachers there (we did have donuts there with coffee and stuff once in a while and this really helped).  We did have one or two teachers who still showed up late we talked to them to find out why they showed up late and how we could help them out to get here earlier.  Still we had one man who always showed up late with no excuses just showed up late, my husband talked to him and asked him what he would do to one of his employees who showed up late for work and meetings all the time (he was a buisness man with many people under him) and that seemed to really bring it in to perspective for him.

We did have to be ready to let some go who couldn't be there and really committ to this and we did help where we could, like for one teacher we had our older daughters step in to take the kids until the teacher could get there.  This teacher really couldn't get there on time for personal reasons and we were willing to work with her so she could serve, as this was her hearts desire.

Try the opening meeting and food, this really does seem to help most people.  They feel a real sense of this is important so they make the extra effort.

Good luck!

I think this is CHRONIC everywhere.  One way we are dealing with it (and the kids who show up 20 minutes early!) is by playing VBS Sing & Play DVDs (and some others we've purchased recently) starting about quarter to 9.  Then we have an opening with singing, announcements and prayer until about 9:15.  That way if the teachers are a few minutes late, they still have time to set up before the kids need to move to their stations.  (We've been doing stations this year and are starting FW friends this quarter.. it's working out GREAT for us!)
