At our Farmer's Market last year, we had peanuts, raisins, M&M's, pretzels, etc. and let the kids make a small bag of trail mix while tasting foods!  They loved it!  Just an idea for a snack!

Gina- Thank you so much for the idea with the spray paint! I will go home tonight and discuss that with my husband (that's his shop for the week). I think he will love that. Thank you for posting the information. Many blessing to you and your VBS.

The holders that you used are really neat, as well as the pestles (?). We where very interested in doing a spice shop this year, but where kind of scared off by the cost/supplies involved. Is it doable on a small budget? Where did you find your supplies?

Thanks, Jen

Our VBS is 1 month away as of today!  I held staff training today after morning service.  What a blessing.  I have gotten my shops assigned.  The biggest blessing is the man who took on the Herb Shop.  Jim does all the gardening around the church building.  After the meeting he want out and purchased a buunch of herbs and planted them in clay pots and put them on the church property.  he intends to bring the pots inside to use as decoration in his shop.  I have also started to dry several herbs that he has planted, Lemon balm, lavender flowers, catnip.  He also talks about several herbs he has planted around his house he will add.  Jim has such a servants heart.  One year ago his house flooded in bad floods.  He is living in a Fema Trailer out front of his distroyed gutted house.  His daughters want's him to move south, but he refuses because he loves our church and wants to work around our church.

Other shops we will have:

Carpentry shop; Bakery; Jewelry Shop; Scroll Shop (Instead of the stone carving) Basket Weaving Shop; Rope Making; (To be manned by a boyscout and his father); and a shop that will be our "VBS Store" (A tradition at our VBS.  The kids will earn shekels to spend there.

God Bless-

Bill

If you get a chance can you give any tips on how you did the basket shop and the vbs store. We had planned to do both of these but the ideas/vision is coming in slower than time allows :-)

Hello-

The basket weaving- Guildcraft has a basket weaving kit that I purchased.  Search the web boards for Guild craft site address.

The VBS Store-

Our kids will earn "Shekels" by attendance, bringing Bible, learning the verse etc.  We have lots of stuff that was purchased other years for other stores from Oriental Trading.  This will be set up all week.  The kids can "spend" their shekels during market time, or save up for a bigger item.  I will also have penny candy for the kids to buy.  I think it will look kind of like a real cheap "Big Lots" or something.

Thanks so much for the response. Is the "store" set up in the marketplace and do the tribe leaders give out the "shekels"?
